Savannah City Council adopted the Savannah's Waterfront Community Improvement District's Vision and Implementation Plan for River Street on June 25 and awarded the three-year-old district, Georgia's first CID formed in Savannah, $1,350,000 to begin Phase 1 work: ironwork gateways at ten access points, façade accent lighting, and refuse enclosure upgrades. City Manager Jay Melder framed the award as a template for how the city intends to route capital investment through the CID going forward, rather than a one-time appropriation. A memorandum of understanding establishes the roughly $1.5 million partnership behind the plan.

Watch: Phase 1's delivery timeline. A young CID successfully executing a city-funded capital program on schedule is effectively auditioning for every future capital ask it makes.
