Formation-Stage TIF Roundup: Sturgis, Chelan County, and South Rockford
Three formation-stage items worth a single entry: Sturgis, South Dakota's city council passed a formal resolution of support for a proposed TIF district; Chelan County, Washington reset the public hearing date for the Malaga tax increment area under the state's still-young TIF statute; and Rockford, Illinois's South Rockford TIF district advanced to its final approval stage on June 23. Malaga is the one worth tracking most closely. Washington's TIF enabling statute is new enough that every hearing held under it sets meaningful process precedent for the next city to attempt one.
Watch: The Malaga hearing outcome specifically, given how few Washington TIF districts have gone through the full statutory process to date.
